Winnie Brumsickle
Born 1964, Seattle, Washington, USA
Based in Friday Harbor, Washington, USA

Contemporary painter and sculptor, working in acrylic and mixed media painting as well as resin sculpture, and decorative resin accent lights. Winnie is best known for her abstract expressionist paintings and resin-based sculptural works that integrate organic materials and collections of color inspired by her island lifestyle.

Winnie’s practice is deeply informed by the landscape and natural environment of San Juan Island. Her resin sculptures incorporate cast stones with embedded elements such as dried moss, seaweed, wood, found organic objects, beach pebbles, and posthumous ash. Her paintings convey a sense of striving and resolution, reflecting a search for enduring presence and rest. Signature projects include several series of resin cast stones and abstract paintings that juxtapose organic texture with bold color fields.

She has exhibited in solo and group shows including Friday Harbor Atelier (2023) and Waterworks Gallery (2021). She has participated in the San Juan Island Artists’ Studio Tour (2022–2024) and the SJI Artists’ Registry Show at the San Juan Island Museum of Art (2022–2024). Residencies include The Art Hive Studios and Gallery, Prescott, Arizona (2024). She is largely self-taught, following a curriculum suggested by CAI (2019–present), and completed formal studies in politics and government at the University of Puget Sound (B.S., 1987).
