Jean Shearer - After graduating in 2005 from RIT, I took my BFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design and put it in my back pocket. Farming and sustainable living had caught my interest and I was determined to explore the country and learn something new. I landed on San Juan Island in 2007, to milk cows. During my 17 years here, I have slowly melded my interests and skills. I feel fortunate to have arrived in a community where I can be both artist and farmer. My inspiration comes from my applicability to my current surroundings. Cut to fit, fit to cut.
Nicholas Ian Coldren - My work is inspired by the timeless designs of Viking-age furniture, blending ancient craftsmanship with modern refinement. Drawing from the simplicity, strength, and functionality of historical pieces, I focus on producing heirloom-quality furniture that is both durable and aesthetically captivating. By honoring the traditional forms and materials, I aim to create functional art that is rooted in history while meeting the needs of contemporary life. Each piece is crafted from solid wood, with attention to detail, ensuring that it will stand the test of time and be passed down for generations. Through my work, I strive to connect the past with the present, creating furniture that tells a story of enduring craftsmanship, utility, and beauty.
