“I paint for the joy of doing it. The subjects, whether abstract or representational, often reflect a mood or focus on a particular color. I use a process of layering color and visual textures to give the paintings depth. These initial layers often guide the direction of the work, sometimes offering satisfying surprises to me in the resulting piece. Lately I've been interested in the themes of fire, trees, nests and stones, all of which offer an opportunity to use vibrant color schemes as well as reflecting the world around me.”
