BJ Dollahite - "Inspiration is the start of my pieces. I work from nature, on site sketches and photos. My painting style is contemporary expressionistic with subtle hints of the abstract. The technique is called Watercolor Collage and requires transparent layers of pigment on canvas, then layering rice papers over the canvas. Creating a painting that emanates depth, textures and interesting shadows."
Matt Dollahite lives in the San Juan Islands off the Washington coast. This area of windswept, rustic, nautical beauty along with Matt’s impressionistic style of painting creates a wonderful emotional response in his paintings. Some of his island paintings can bring a viewer to a place of calm and serenity. Others paintings give energy from dramatic vistas. Matt paints plein air much of the time. This he describes as his schooling for his studio work were the process of painting comes together.
