Artist statement My sculpture represents my own sense of iconic imagery and exhibits my love of the theatrical through embellishment, textiles and collage. My focus on faces is simply an obsession with the thousands of faces all around us how we read them and how they make us feel. Some of my inspirations spring from a love of Tribal Masks, the Russian dancer and designer Diaghilev and contemporary artists Julie Taymor and Sherry Markovitz. This will be my second showing at my studio on False Bay Drive and I am very pleased that my friends, Marion Melville a jewelry artist, and Fionna Small will be my special guests. Biography I received my B.A. in Art from the University of Puget Sound and studied painting at the Honolulu Academy of Art. After teaching Art in Middle School I discovered my interest in theater and pursued acting designing and directing opening to a world of metaphor and archetypes. I feel my work is a result of all these experiences blending together to inform my artistic direction. |
