After a career of screen writing, Sammy (MA, MS) enrolled in the sculpting department of San Diego State University where he learned figure sculpting and worked in a variety of mediums. When his wife, Laura, retired as a university administrator they moved to San Juan Island where they constructed a studio overlooking Haro Strait. Sammy specializes in bronze sculptures, and is honoring the Plains Indians in a series of pieces. Laura loves to design and create furniture and home décor items such as serving trays with glass bowls. She also does wood carving the old-fashioned way, with chisels and a wooden mallet. As to motive, Sammy likes to say "When a work of art arrests you, if only for a moment, it is speaking to your unconscious. Ask yourself why." Their work can be shown by appointment, or purchased from "The Black Fish" Gallery in La Conner, WA. |
