For me, art has been a form of visual record keeping. A way of showing where I’ve been; a way of translating the heart wrenching beauty of the islands, the earth, into painting, drawing and fabric. As an artist I would prefer to give you an image of what art is to me, but barring that, here are the questions I have been pondering for the last 30 years: *Zen artists say that all growing things yearn for the sun and reach skyward, until at the last, the earth pulls the tips of leaves and branches back to their home. Hmmm… *What is the shape of the wind? *What is it about Japanese art? * I wonder what would happen if….. If you look closely you can see elements of these four questions in all my work, in all my efforts to express the wonderous beauty of where we live. I’ll look forward to seeing you in my studio on Rouleau Road, Oak Boesky, Oak Designs |
