Artist statement My life as a silver jewelry maker began in the 1970’s when I chose to live aboard a boat in San Francisco Bay. I had recently graduated from Pratt Institute in New York City with a fine arts degree, but it had become clear to me that I wasn’t a city person. Anyway, adventure called. After several years of nautical living, the spatial limitations and a lot of pent up creativity lead me to take courses in silversmithing at the nearby College of Marin. I loved working in silver with it’s amazing qualities and limitless possibilities, and it was the perfect medium for working in a confined space. It’s been a long time since I’ve had that kind of limitation. I’ve lived on San Juan Island for 30 years now. I have a light filled studio where I also draw and paint whenever I have time. In the summer, my days are spent working in my studio, keeping an extensive vegetable garden and hiking in the many exquisite areas in the Islands. |
